Google Hints On More Android One Devices Coming This Year

Do you remember the Infinix Hot 2 Android One device  and host of others that were launched last year and that emanated as result of Google initiative program geared towards delivering of self-Google branded android OS devices below $100 to mobile phone emergent markets?

Hayes also hinted that this time around that manufacturer will be more at liberty to handle this year’s project unlike the previous one whereby OEMs involved were made to observe some stringent rules by Google.

According to Hayes in his interview pertaining the this year’s Android One project;

For the initial devices that we had launched, we had put certain yardsticks in order to stand up the software, which is why you saw commonality between the specifications

He continued;

The freedom to choose components is now around for OEMs. The decision to procure the components to build the device is still very much taken by the OEM, as they decide everything in terms of specification, pricing, and when launch. We work around the software elements such as bringing services and Android as a platform OS on to those devices

But he did not hint on the likely specifications that the devices will be coming with but there is an indication that the project will yield further lower priced devices way below the initial $100 mark.

You should also remember that one of the greatest features that Google Android One devices offer to users is the ability to receive fast and easy OTA updates to all newer versions of Android OS.
