The rise and fall of 2go mobile social chat network

We all know that 2go was once that famous mobile social chat network that was developed in South Africa some years back. 

3 to 4 years ago, the 2go mobile chat network dominated the mobile social chat network, and they did not only just thrilled their numerous users, there was indeed a craze for it to the extent that almost every youth in the country wants the application to be installed on their mobile device, so that they can easily connect and reach out to their friends, family and loved ones at almost near to nothing charges unlike the high charges involved in making calls or sending out conventional text message.

No doubt that most youth enjoyed the use of the 2go chat network to easily connect with one another in different ways, but the question that is left in the mouth of many is ‘what really has become of the 2go in recent time?’ 

These days, we have noticed a tremendous decline in the number of persons using the once been loved mobile chat network for all, and this decline in usage have been attributed to lot of reasons by its users. 

Some have attributed this decline as a result of the emergence of other social network apps like the famous blackberry messenger, whatsapp, nimbuzz etc. 

Some have argued that the decline is as the result of 2go network no longer meeting the requirements of users and that it have been abused in different ways, ranging from using it in deceiving unsuspecting members of the public to most of their chat room becoming increasingly boring and unproductive. 

No wonder you will hear people this days making statement that 2go is now a childish social network.

Another factor I will also like to point out here is that in those early days of 2go, we could remember that almost everything pertaining to its usage was almost free. 

Free to chat, free to join any available forum, free to comment in forums, but as time goes on and as newer versions of 2go comes out, we began to notice that before one could now take some actions in their network, one will need to have some go credits, and we know that go credits needs little money to acquire, so it is a bit unfortunate for the 2go developers that youths mostly enjoy using such network for free, and because of that, some gradually opt out from the chat network. 

To the extent that whenever one logs into his/her 2go account, you will hardly see any friend online. 

I want to use myself as a typical example. I have 181 2go friends in my friend list, and for the past consecutive 2 weeks that I have at one time or the other logged into my 2go account, I have always seen zero friends online. Even when I decide to wait for some few minutes to see if any friend will come online, I only do that in vein as nobody seems to be coming online, unlike before whenever I logged into my account, I see nothing less than 20 friends online.

There are some applications and social network that have come out in the past and stood the test of time and still seem to stand in the nearest future without looking to be abandoned. 

We have the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp etc. so here, we can now draw the conclusion that 2go developers needs to do more if they still want to remain strong and competitive with their counterparts. 

If you can’t meet or give the masses what they want, they will dump you and go for what they consider better, it is as simple as that. Go and ask the likes of Nintendo games manufacturers, Motorola and Sony Ericson phone manufacturers what is really happening to their products in this present era, and I am sure they will have better answer to offer you. 

Even the almighty Nokia phones manufacturers are seriously been threatened in the phone market and are working hard in order to meet up with their counterparts.

For the 2go developers, it has been noticed that any form of slowdown in what you are offering to the masses can easily result in people keeping you , your products and services in limbo.
