Download OpenVPN client for PC and browse all day with MTN night data bundle plan
The other
time, I gave you how to use OpenVPN to browse all day with MTN night plan on your Android devices and many people
were happy about that. Today I am going to be extending this option of using
OpenVPN for PC to browse all day with MTN night data plan to those that will
like to use it on their system.
If you have
been following us here you will know that, not long ago I wrote on how to use MTN simple server to browse all day with the MTN night data plan on PC. Even as I am writing this
particular piece now, all the tweaks mentioned above are still working
perfectly. But the truth is that with the MTN
simple server, you can only use it with Mozilla Firefox browser, and other
browsers like Chrome and the rest will not work and again apart from just using
it to surf around only on Mozilla Firefox, you will not be able to make use of
internet enabled applications on your systems like updating your Anti-Virus and
some other downloads.
That is why I
now decided to give you another option that will give you all the freedom you
need to access the internet with any browser of your choice and use it on any
application on your system to connect to the internet once you configure it
properly.
You can read: Etisalat hourly browsing internet data plan
I hereby
officially present to you the OpenVPN method of browsing all day with the MTN
night data plan on PC.
Don’t worry,
the process is quite technical, but I am going to be lifting you by the hand like
a baby from start to finish and you should be able to configure it yourself and
browse the hell out of your night data bundle during the day.
If you are
ready to go, I am ready too on the step by step guide to achieving that….No
more only nocturnal activities….for God’s sake are you an owl or a bat!?...Definitely
not. Now let’s fire down with the steps;
You can also read: How to subscribe for MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel normal N1,000 monthly data bundle
= =>You
must have subscribed to the MTN night plan with N2,500. You can simply
subscribe to that by loading N2,500 and dialing the code *102# and again you need to have exhausted the 1.5GB bonus that comes
with it, leaving you now with only 3GB that you can normally use only at night
from 9PM till 6AM the next day.
= =>You
need an OpenVPN client software for
PC. Download it here for 64bit system, but if your computer is 32bit then download here
= =>After
downloading, install it on your PC. You can just close a notepad text window
that will pop up after the installation.
= =>You
need OpenVPN server files. You can download them here. It is a zip folder; unzip to see four OpenVPN server files, and
then just copy the four files.
= =>Now
for Windows7 and other lower versions of Window OS, go straight to your Start button menu then to All Programs, then locate the OpenVPN folder and open it, you will
see Utilities folder, open the Utilities folder to see Generate a static OpenVPN key.
In other words for simplified step to locate the Generate a static OpenVPN key it goes like this from Start button=>All programs=>OpenVPN=>Utilities=>Generate a static OpenVPN key. As you have located the Generate a static OpenVPN key, right click on it and run it as administrator and click yes on the pop up; a command prompt window will come up, just tap on any key for it to disappear.

Note for Windows 8 users and above, you can
simply locate the Generate a static
OpenVPN key by just searching it out in the Apps section of your system. I.e.
search for Generate a static OpenVPN key
then right click and run as administrator just as indicated above.
= =>Next
is for you to go to your Computer=>Local disk (Drive C or hard drive)=>Program files=>OpenVPN(folder)=>Config(folder)=>Then
paste the copied OpenVPN server files
that I asked you to copy above. I.e. paste the server files inside the Config folder.
= =>Now
insert your modem with your MTN line to your system and connect it to the
internet i.e. if you have not already done that.
= =>After
you must have connected to the internet, locate the OpenVPN shortcut icon
on your desktop, right click on it and run
as administrator, click yes on the pop up, then you should see the OpenVPN
running at the lower right end side of your taskbar.
= =>Right
click on the running OpenVPN icon on the taskbar to see options, you will see
those four server files and settings
option below, click on the settings to
set it up. On the window that will come up, choose the manual configuration radio button to set up the HTTP proxy address and port. For the address, put 10.199.212.2 then for port use 8080 and click OK.
= =>Right
click on the running OpenVPN icon on the taskbar again, then from those four
servers that will appear, choose one (preferably any of the tcp files) and
connect.
= =>A
window will come up asking you for username
and password. Just visit VPNBOOK copy the username and password
that you will see there just somewhere below the page, come back and input
those username and password that you copied in their spaces. (Note username and
password are both case sensitive)
= =>Click
the OK tab after inputting the username and password and just wait for few
seconds for it to connect. When it connects you will see that the OpenVPN icon
on the task bar will change to green signifying that it is connected.
= =>That
is all and you are done, then you can now locate any browser of your choice and start
browsing any time of the day you like.
You can read: Glo now offers 1.6GB data bundle for browsing on any device for N2,000 and for 1 month
Note anytime you want to start up the
OpenVPN if you have exited it, you must run it as an administrator, connect to
any of the server files and key in that username and password which you earlier
copied.
If you are
happy with these breathtaking steps which you just received, kindly use the
comment box below to express yourself or if you have any question for further
clarification do well to use the comment box too.

Yes it works. Don't you think it is time we get to know you by name and maybe snippet image? Actually you can only use it within the data limit allotted to you by MTN which is 3GB. Thanks so much for finding out time to come over again.

DeleteMy name is Hamilton,,,,, Pls is it working on android phones lik techno cos i think its difficult to use it there,,,,, thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Hamilton,
DeleteWelcome to this community, and I will be glad to take on your question.
Firstly, I hope you were not trying to use this particular VPN for your Tecno device as the one described above here is for that of PC alone, but I have also discussed that of Android and here is the link to that http://highteknology.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-can-i-browse-all-day-with-my-mtn.html
Secondly, the answer to your question is that it works very well too on techno devices.
The first phone I used in configuring it was a Phantom A+ and it worked smoothly and I hoped that was a tecno device? I have configured it on many other phones and it worked perfectly, including the new Nokia X android phones
Again, the only time you can encounter issue on it is if the OpenVPN fails to install on your phone as a result of very old version of android as Gingerbread and Honeycomb, and which is not only peculiar to techno devices.
Aside from that, if you have Android Ice cream Sandwich, Jelly bean and even Kitkat, it will install in them and if you follow up the laid down instructions above then you should be able to browse any time of the day with it.
Do have a lovely day ahead Himilton and thank you for coming over.
my name is Dung, pls i did everything correct but when i put in the username and password it will not connect
ReplyDeleteHi Dung,
DeleteFirst of all I want to officially welcome you to this great community and thank you for making your way through.
It is a community where all your questions will be attended to and solutions proffered to the questions.
Dung, I want to put it to you that you omitted something along the way and did not do everything correct as you thought, because if you did everything correctly, it will surely connect and browse.
I urge you to follow the steps carefully again and do as I said without omitting any single step and I bet you it will connect.
Where you are asked to run as administrator, make sure you do. Where you are asked to configure up the settings make sure you do, and also make sure you have not mistakenly omitted something or typo error.
Remember I said the username and password are case sensitive.
So carefully go through again and check all your parameters, don't be in a hurry, as it is a one time set up which once you get it right, next time you won't have to set up anything again.
So please do as I said and we will love to get your feedback after you must have gone back to troubleshoot and to attend to you if the problem persists or even to here the success story.
But am I 100% sure that if you get it right as explained above it will connect.
