China Finally Lifts Ban on Video Game Consoles
Little did many
know that China in 2000 placed a 15 year ban on the manufacture and sales of
Video Game Consoles in the entire territory of the People Republic of China
amidst fear of impacting negatively on the mental and physical development of Chinese
children.
Since the
ban, gamers in the country have shifted attention to PC, mobile and web based
games for their gaming pleasures.
It was
gathered that last year, China eased restriction in some part of Shanghai free
trade zone for console makers to operate on experimental bases.
But today, report
reaching us is that the 15 year old long ban has finally been lifted in entirety
as recently announced by the country’s ministry of cultures, thereby paving the
way for both indigenous and foreign companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft
to start manufacturing and selling Video game console in any part of the country.
