ATM In The Country Will No Longer Pay You If You Shield Your Face From Its Camera
The Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the Operation of Electronic Payment Channels has
released a set of guidelines on how ATM should now be programmed to work, as
part of security measures being put in place to strengthen ATM, POS and web transactions.
In one of
the guidelines, it clearly mandated ATM operators across the country to program
the ATM is such a way as to cancel transactions where individuals using the ATM
shield their face from the hidden ATM’s camera.
Part of the guidelines
in question reads as follows;
“Where the user of an ATM blocks his image
for camera capture, the ATM shall be capable of aborting the transaction”
The guideline
further stated that the camera should not be made to capture user’s keystrokes.
According to
CBN, any erring institution(s) that fail to comply with the guidelines will
receive serious sanctions.
