Jumia And Konga Unable To Withstand Economic Pressure As Delivery Fees Skyrocket
The pressures
are seriously mounting in the economy of the country and have forced inflation
to ravage almost every economic sector of the nation.
As we speak
to you currently, there is pressure on the country’s currency Naira against
major foreign currencies, there is pressure on the prices of food items in the
market, there is pressure in the cost of transportation, there is pressure
almost every angle.
The two biggest
online shopping malls in the country, Jumia and Konga are also not left out in
the wind of current economic pressure that is blowing hard across all sectors
and that has forced the duo to quickly increase delivery fees for their items.
Formerly,
small handy items like phones and the rest purchased from Jumia online shopping
store cost somewhere around N500 to
deliver outside Lagos, but today as we speak, the delivery fee has doubled as
Jumia will now charge you around N1,200
to deliver similar items to city destinations like Portharcourt, Abuja, Owerri
etc.

While on the
other hand, Konga that charges you about N700
before to deliver those items to such cities has also increased delivery fees to
about N1,000
Delivery
fees on Jumia and Konga for heavier items like washing machines, refrigerators,
power generators etc. are now also on the higher side.
If you also
noticed, the current pressure on the country’s currency has also caused many
items on those online stores to increase as consumers battle to meet up with
such hike in prices.
Finally and
from economist point of view, the higher the price of goods in the market, the
lower the demand, therefore at this point, as result of the present inflation, we
expect to have lower demands for commodities in the market.
