What You Need To Know About The New Universal 2442 “DO Not Disturb” Code From GSM Network Operators
At the
beginning of this month, the NCC swung into action of protecting GSM customers
across the country against unsolicited spammy SMS from the major GSM network
operators in the country by issuing a strong directive for them to adopt a
universal Do Not Disturb Code.
With the
directive what it means is that that the likes of MTN, Airtel, Glo and Etisalat
customers will now have the will power to decide whether they want to receive
messages or not from those GSM network providers.
Whether the
customers want messages on promotions or tips on particular stuffs like health,
sport etc. the power to decide is now vested upon them.
And after
directive, MTN, Airtel, Glo and Etisalat have gone ahead to adopt the 2442 Do
Not Disturb (DNB) code for the purpose.
And now
henceforth, any customers of those GSM network providers that do not want to
receive any form of tips or promotional SMS from them again can simply go ahead
and text STOP to 2442, but customers that are interested
in getting tips on some events as mentioned above, can also decide to text HELP to 2442 to get the list of 10 different activity tips and the reply
code to choose from the categories of message tips they want to continue
receiving.
Many saw this
as a welcome development and the perfect way to curb all unsolicited, spamming
and sometimes extremely annoying and disturbing text message that MTN, Airtel,
Glo and Etislata keep sending out to their customers.
Are you in concurrence
with this latest directive from NCC?
