What You Need To know About The MTN Solar Lumos Mobile Electricity Power Box
As unstable electricity power continues to be the order of the day in the country, people have continued to source for cheaper and alternative sources of power supply; if not for anything, at least to run some of their home appliances, especially when it comes to area of charging their mobile devices like phones, tablets, laptops etc.
In a bid to assist in providing cheap and alternate power source to cater for those needs of residents in the country, MTN in partnership with Lumos Mobile Electricity have brought the Y'ello Box solar power pack, where uninterrupted power services are offered to individuals based on hire purchase.
The MTN Y'ello box is a small power box with inbuilt inverter and battery and it also comes along with a 60W solar panel.
The box has an AC power output of up to 60W and DC power output up to 100W, but now the questions in the mouth of many is on how efficient and durable this power pack can be.
First of all before we talk about efficiency of the power box, you should recall that we made mention that the services of the power box are offered based on hire purchase; meaning that there are daily, weekly or monthly subscription fee that is spread across 5 years period after which you then gain complete ownership of the box with no more access fees.
But before you start subscribing to the MTN Y'ello solar box power services, you need to acquire the complete box with a one time payment that currently stands at N26,000; after which an MTN technician will aid you for the home installation at N2500 surcharge.
After installation, then normal subscription to the service commences. The normal daily subscription to the service goes for N200 per day, but if you want a good bargain you can opt for monthly subscriptions at the rate of N4,500.

Subscription is easy, during your purchase of the box, it came with a SIM card attached, which you can use for the subscription via airtime.
Back to the efficiency of the Yellow box, for some, it is serving them a good purpose, while for some; they see the power capacity of the box as meagre and therefore not very efficient for them.
As we initially said that the Yellow box came with AC power output of 60W and DC power output of 100W.
The real question is on what appliances you can use the MTN Yellow box to power and for how long.
If you know what 60W AC power means, you should have idea on your range of appliances that needs AC current that it can power.
Recommended: How to prevent your phone battery from swelling/bulging
Yes 60W is not a big wattage or power and you shouldn’t expect the Yellow box to power most of your appliances.
For example your normal single yellow bulb of 100W cannot be powered by the box, so if you want to talk about lightening, your energy saving bulbs of 18W, the box should be able to power only 3 of such bulbs without any other appliances plugged.
Most laptops require 45W to power them, so the Yellow box can at least power a single laptop comfortably.
For television, if your television set requires within 50W to power, then the box can handle that singly.
But there is twist here, those appliances we mentioned requires AC current, but we did mention that it can handle DC appliances to the tune of 100W.
Don’t Miss: Have you been enjoying the on-going airtel double data offer?
Since your phone needs mostly DC current, the box can charge many phones at once without any difficulty. There are also many appliances that make use of DC current, like we have DC radios, DC fans, DC bulbs etc. Those DC appliances will augur well with the Yellow box without any issue.
If you make use of DC appliances only with the Y'ello Box, then be rest assured that you can easily get up to 14 hours uninterrupted power during the night time when the sun has set, but with AC appliances as highlighted above, you should be looking up to 4 hours uninterrupted supply during the night time.
Finally, you can get some customised DC appliances on the point of purchase of the MTN Yellow box that are durable and well suited for it. We have just given you a general overview and all you need to know about MTN solar Lumos electricity box, for further clarification, you can hit on the comment section.
