After 16 Years, StumbleUpon Is Shutting Down
Could the saying that everything that has beginning must surely have an end directly or indirectly playing out on StumbleUpon, after the Co-founder Garrett Camp announced that StubleUpon will shutter?
And yes you read it well, StumleUpon, one of the last standing social bookmarking platforms and content discovery sites is finally going to be shut down on the 30th of June this year.
As announced by StumbleUpon co-founder Garrett Camp that the discovery service will be shut down and that all existing StumbleUpon account will be migrated to another platform, which he simply referred to as Mix.
Mix will be the new content curation service that will incorporate social media presence, and now instead of landing on to contents accidentally as it used to be with StumbleUpon, with Mix, contents will now be served based on preferences and popular demand.
For the past 16 years, since the inception of StumbleUpon, and as time goes by, the popularity of SU was undeniable, providing millions of web contents producers good source of genuine and free traffic, but since there is time for everything on earth and most probably this is the time to bid StumbleUpon farewell and a time to move onto other area that seems to tackle most of the shortcomings on SU.
StumbleUpon as it existed have recoded about 40million registered users and with over 60billion stumbles, and despite this huge remarkable achievement and status attached to SU, Camp believed that stumblers are more or less wonderers on the web and instead of just clicking “I like this” and taking them into the world of uncertainty, that it will be better to have a platform, where users are easily and better served with their choices from the huge categories of grouped and related contents.
